YOSEPH GUTFREUND, of blessed memory
He was 40 when he died. He left behind a wife and two daughters. Yoseph was born in Romania, where he attended medical school. He aspired to be a veterinarian, but quickly switched to sports and excelled as a wrestler.
After he immigrated to Israel, he joined the "Hapoel Jerusalem" Association. He dealt in commerce, but he devoted most of his time to sports. He organized his association's heavy athletics division. He completed a course in international refereeing and his achievements in the field were considerable.
He served as a referee at the 1968 Tokyo Olympic Games and at the world championships in India and Bulgaria. He was invited by the twentieth Olympic Organizing Committee to referee the wrestling at the Munich Olympic Games.
He was laid to rest in Jerusalem's Har Menuhot cemetery.
